This guide may depend on where you live, however for skin care and glow all year round, you need a routine which should be dependable to all seasonal changes and all climates. The only product you should use consistently for 365 days is your sunscreen.  Just like we all change outfits, with every new season your skin needs a new routine to protect itself against the elements each season brings. By making a few tweaks to your routine while changing from each season, I have put together your essential skincare guide. This will help you stay consistent with your routine all year round while ensuring your skin stays healthy and glowing.

Our standard skincare routine should always be cleanse, tone, moisturise and include exfoliating regularly our face and body. We also need to keep hydrated drinking 7/8 glasses water daily as a minimum and eating seasonal fruits and vegetables. This helps to get the health benefits from the nutrients and antioxidants for skin health and cell renewal. Plus, regular exercise to boost mood and keep our skin tight and firm.

Here you will find out how you can tailor your skincare routine to suit each season, my recommended products which you can order directly from me, and an invite to my online facial wellness workshops, which I’d love you to experience and enjoy.

Autumn / Winter Skincare

Autumn Winter SkincareFor this half of the year swop your cleansers to cream cleansers, these remove impurities without stripping the skin and help keep it balanced. Use nourishing and intense moisturisers, a thicker cream helps protect skin against environmental stressors. Hydrating masks and overnight treatments are deeply nourishing and after a restful night essential for when our skin heals and regenerates, so you can wake up with glowing skin. Serums add an extra layer of moisture, always apply to your skin first so it can absorb the nutrients and lip balms are essential to stop lips from chapping.

The colder temperatures can really dry out our skin, drawing out much needed moisture, so pay attention to your hands too. As we age the skin’s ability to retain moisture becomes increasingly difficult. You can increase the humidity in your home with a humidifier, apart from looking cool, it acts like a facial moisturiser for the home.

Try multi masking, a technique applying different masks to specific areas of your skin. The idea behind multi masking is that it allows you to address a multitude of skin concerns at the same time, allowing you to customise your skin care and maximise the results you see.

Chemical peels are another way to brighten skin. This is a facial resurfacing treatment that removes the top layer of skin to reveal brighter revitalised skin underneath. If you’ve not had one before it’s a procedure where a solution is applied to the face to remove dead skin cells and stimulates the growth of new cells, so skin appears smoother and revitalised. They can also reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scarring and other skin imperfections. Different chemicals determine the depth of your peel, with a light or medium peel you may need to undergo the procedure more than once to get the desired results.  These last between one to two months, a deep peel lasts forever. A great way to achieve brighter and healthy beautiful skin.

Autumn Brighten/Rejuvenate

Autumn Brighten RejuvenateDark starry nights, cosy evenings in, clocks going back, Autumn is here. As the weather starts to cool down and the air gets drier, your skin will need more moisture. Make sure to use products that won’t dry out your skin. You can refer to my earlier blog Autumn Skincare Tricks and Treats | Zen Pamper During autumn our skin becomes drier, looks duller and becomes less elastic due to lower humidity and temperature. Drier skin is more prone to irritation and fine lines, wrinkles and also flare ups of rosacea. Hydrate skin to promote collagen production. Some essential oils can help enhance and balance sensitive skin such as neroli, lavender and chamomile. Always dilute in a carrier oil or use a fragrance free moisturiser.

Essential recommended products for Autumn – Hydrating cream cleanser, gentle face and body exfoliator, multi masking, intense moisturiser thicker richer cream.

MY PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS SEASON – Frankincense Intense Cleansing Melt

Frankincense Intense Cleansing MeltA triple textured cleanser, specially formulated to melt away everyday impurities including waterproof make-up. Leaves skin feeling smooth, soft and intensely cleansed without drying. Nice to use and create a moment of mindfulness. The smell of frankincense essential oil enhances wellbeing and it’s deeply relaxing. Clinically proven to moisturise skin for up to 12 hours. Use morning and evening. I love the way it changes from a gel to an oil to a milk cleanser.

Winter Nourish/Hydrate

Winter Nourish HydrateWinter tends to be harsher on your skin due to the colder temperatures and heating in homes. Keep hydrating and nourishing products to keep it looking its best and make sure you apply everywhere hands, neck, body etc. Always apply a serum or facial oil before your moisturiser, this is because it’s usually more lightweight and can give skin an opportunity to absorb the active ingredients.

Essential recommended products for Winter – Cream cleanser, serum, facial mist the extra hydration also helps PH balance the skin, body exfoliator, hydrating face mask, overnight balm, deeply nourishing body butter.

MY PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS SEASON – Frankincense Intense Overnight Mask

Frankincense Intense Overnight MaskThis luxurious overnight mask visibly firms and recontours for a more rested and radiant complexion. Clinically proven to reduce the appearance of fine lines leaving skin revitalised. Enhances wellbeing with frankincense essential oil, used for its deeply relaxing aroma. Use as an overnight treatment or a 30-minute mask for an instant boost.

Spring / Summer Skin Care

Spring Summer Skin CareSpring is all about renewal, budding blossoms, warmer mornings and radiant skin. Make sure you spring clean your skin care shelf and throw out any products that have past their shelf life date and clean makeup brushes from bacteria and germs. Change to lighter cleansers such as foam/gel, vitamin C serum, facial mist, lighter moisturiser or protect your skin using dual purpose products which include an SPF minimum 15, apply even on cloudy days. Try using tinted moisturiser or lightweight foundations, avoid deep and oily heavy moisturisers. Wear non comedogenic makeup which doesn’t have pore clogging ingredients.

Look after your skin and exfoliate your body. Buff winter skin with an exfoliation mitt or body brush and show some love to your legs and arms. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and also exercise as this increases blood flow and helps maintain healthy skin cells.

You can use glycolic acid in your skin care.  This creates a peeling effect that can make the skin appear smoother and more even.

Choose to have a soft peel to repair and renew skin after sun damage. With a soft exfoliation to get rid of dead skin cells while deep cleansing pores, this can help smooth out an uneven complexion, nourish dry skin and help fade dark spots.

Spring Refresh/Renew

Spring Refresh RenewOnce the warm weather arrives you no longer have to worry about dry skin. However, you want to restore your skins natural glow. Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables especially citrus fruits and antioxidants, as these are helpful for skin health and cell renewal.

Essential recommended products for Spring – Brightening lighter cleansers, glowing facial scrubs, lighter moisturisers and tinted moisturisers, vitamin C serum or facial oil.

MY PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS SEASON – Orange Flower Facial Oil

Orange Flower Facial OilApart from smelling amazing, it balances skin’s natural moisture levels. This award-winning facial oil replenishes dry skin. With nourishing neroli oil, and a blend of omega and antioxidant rich botanical oils, it also helps protect against premature ageing, making it beneficial for younger skin.

Facial oils replenish your skin’s natural moisture levels whilst helping to protect from moisture loss. They’re useful in cold, dry weather or during the summer months when your skin may be feeling particularly sun parched. Apply a few drops to your skin before your moisturiser for a hydrating boost.

Summer Revitalise/Protect

Summer Revitalise ProtectMake skin more radiant the whole summer and enjoy the gorgeous weather you’ve been waiting all year for. Keep these skincare tips in mind, stay in the shade and avoid midday sun which is the strongest. Take cool showers for better blood flow and keep them short, over showering can lead to dry skin. Don’t forget to check your moles and be careful with sun exposure. Meet the SPF minimum recommended 30+ and apply sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes prior to sun exposure and then reapply every 2 hours, try and go for water resistant cream. Use retinoids in moderation as this will cause more irritation in summer. Retinoids make skin more sensitive to the sun, so still use these with sunscreen. Revitalising skin masks should be used weekly to improve skin elasticity, boost texture and appearance. Use dual purpose moisturisers that include SPF. The hot summer months can lead to oil and sweat build up, resulting in acne and clogged pores. The goal this season is to keep your skin oil free and matte. Try to lighten your skincare products and routine.

Essential products recommended for Summer – Mattifying lighter cleanser and properly wash your face going up to the hair line, use revitalise skin masks weekly to improve elasticity, boost texture and appearance, glycolic acid moisturiser, moisturise after the beach, sunscreen, face mist to refresh skin throughout the day, reduce shine and minimise pore size.

MY PRODUCT RECOMMENDATION FOR THIS SEASON – Wild Rose SPF30 Moisturising

Wild Rose SPF30 MoisturisingWild Rose Moisturising SPF 30 for face, moisturises skin throughout the day and helps to protect against damaging UVA/UVB light. With antioxidant-rich, organic wild rosehip seed oil and nourishing shea butter it keeps skin beautifully soft throughout the day. For all skin types, moisturises for up to 12 hours, 100% mineral sun filter. Apply every morning and remove before bedtime. This product has a thick consistency, you may wish to apply it over your usual moisturiser.

A few extra tips to add into your monthly skincare routine.

With skincare it’s all about lifting and toning, holding onto tension in our face can lead to wrinkles and fine lines, particularly as we age our skin loses elasticity. Try using a rose quartz roller or gua sha stone in your skin care routine, both are an excellent way to release muscle tension and massage the face. Keep it beside your bed and use it before you go to sleep to help you relax and for a restful night. Try and set time aside two to three times per month with a skincare routine to refresh and rejuvenate. Your skin will be in prime condition in no time. It’s also good to include a facial muscle exercise routine, yes that’s right, a workout for your face. Start making this a habit and part of your bedtime routine. By including a steam into your routine too this will help relax facial muscles, open pores, and enables skin to absorb treatment masks, serums and moisturisers better.

If this sounds like a lot don’t worry, we are happy to help you and your skin feel its best all year round. You are invited to experience my online facial wellness workshops, these are a great way to enhance your skincare routine and wellbeing.
