Autumn is here, and that means adjusting your skincare routine to prepare it for the colder months. This should focus on additional hydration and nourishment. Between the cold temperatures and central heating, autumn is the season where our skins more vulnerable to dryness.

As the nights draw in, we spend too much time indoors, this makes it the perfect time to create a good skin care routine to keep it clear and hydrated. You’ll need to pay more attention to your skin particularly to the face and neck to help restore it back to its happiest healthiest state and look rejuvenated. You can also prevent autumn dryness by drinking more water, investing in a humidifier, and showering in lukewarm water.

Here are a few helpful hints to keep your skin feeling and looking great!

Exfoliate regularly but avoid harsh scrubs. Opt for smoother exfoliators and exfoliate two to three times a week to brighten and refresh dull or congested skin. This also helps to maintain hydration.

Choose a gentle cream cleanser or cleansing balm rather than face wash or soap to avoid stripping your skin and help retain moisture levels. Try to massage your cleanser into your skin.

Now is a great time to add a serum into your routine for the winter months. A serum is excellent to keep your skin looking bright and hydrated. Consider using a serum as well as a moisturiser. Moisturise morning and night and choose a richer moisturiser.

Use an SPF every single day to avoid harmful UVA rays which are the biggest cause of ageing to your skin. You should wear an SPF over moisturiser every day. This is the most important product to protect your skin from signs of damage and aging.

And with Halloween just a few nights away it’s a good excuse to talk about masks. We should use a facemask once or twice a week as part of a good skincare routine. We can use a facemask morning or night, it depends on your schedule.

I’ve chosen my top three favourite facemasks and the reasons why I use them

1 Wild Rose Beauty Balm

My number one face mask. The smell is amazing and being a balm it’s so easy to apply, made from beeswax. I use this as a night face mask usually twice a week and wash it off in the morning and my skin looks healthy and glowing. Suitable for all skin types. I also use it as a cleanser and lip balm. Perfect for this season.

2 Rejuvenating Frankincense Firming Facemask

A magic mask with a very relaxing aromatic smell, easy to apply and leaves no mess. It’s a clear gel mask which I leave on for 10 minutes and can feel my skin tighten as it dry’s. You can also leave on as a night mask and remove in the morning. My skin looks and feels fantastic after use.

3 Reviving White Tea Facemask

I love the smell of cardamon oil which this mask has. A detoxifying kaolin clay mask made from antioxidant rich white tea; I use this occasionally as a weekly treat. I’ll apply it in the bath and leave on for 10 minutes. Its deep cleansing leaving my skin feeling refreshed. It doesn’t get dry on the skin which makes it easier to remove. Suitable for all skin types.

Always remember that with each new season, a new skincare routine should follow. Of course, it’s not so much the steps that change as it is the products that do. And in autumn, the focus should be on soothing, hydrating and nourishing skincare products. Have a great weekend and don’t forget to turn your clocks back an hour this Sunday at midnight.
