Following on from my Introduction To Aromatherapy online workshop this month where I created different essential oil blends to make at home, I’m carrying on with this festive theme to make more creative gift ideas. The gifts we craft with our own hands are often the most significant as they are infused with love. Essential oils are natures gift to us all, but giving a bottle of oil as a Christmas gift may not be the best choice for that special person on your list especially if they are new to oils and aromatherapy. It is more thoughtful to give gift products made with essential oils. If you have someone that is new to essential oils and aromatherapy try giving them a gift that has essential oils in it. That way they can gain some positive experiences and will be open to trying more. Essential oil gifts can be enjoyed whether they are homemade or purchased, it really depends on your preference and time to be creative. Hopefully, this list will give you some ideas for the loved ones on your Christmas list and you can customise these for the person you are giving them to.

Pot pourri
To make a Christmas blend that’s exactly to your liking, experiment with your own recipe of dried fruit and spices. Cut slices of orange, grapefruit, lemon and bake in the oven on a low heat to dry out then hang on garlands, wreaths or in potpourri and infuse with oils of your choice – I’ve chosen
Orange – citrusy & refreshing. Top Note – promotes feeling of happiness – 1 drop
Cypress – woodsy. Middle Note – relieves stress – 3 drops
Frankincense earthy, spicey. Base Note – 1 drop improves memory and one of the gifts from the three wise men.

It’s easy to customise blends to meet your scent preference, three main notes make a balanced scent. The goal is to balance these three notes, they won’t be equal in proportion, they’ll work together to bring out the best in each. You can use as many oils in a blend as you want, I usually stick to 3 or 4. Remember if it evaporates quickly its known as a top note, slower dispersing oils are base notes and everything in-between is a middle note.

Boost pinecones
Sneak a favourite seasonal fragrance into your Christmas décor by spritzing cones with lavender & eucalyptus scented oil.
Your sense of smell is amazing and powerful. I encourage you tap into it today because it can be a great ally in your emotional wellbeing during these uncertain times. A large part of beauty lies in the positive scent memories that it can evoke.  Focus on the joyous, the beneficial and what moves you forward.

Salt scrub
A nourishing aromatherapy salt scrub which is enjoyable and beneficial as its cleansing and purifying to the skin and makes a lovely gift. Salt scrubs are natural purifiers that remove the toxins which block pores, promote better circulation, tightens skin and is ideal for detoxification.

This recipe is simple, a lemon and coconut blend which is healing and moisturising to the skin as well as to the mind.
½ cup Epsom salt
2 tablespoons coconut oil moisturising
6 drops lemon oil uplifting & cleansing
Glass jar with lid wide enough to scoop the scrub out
Place salt in a glass bowl, mix in coconut oil and essential oils. Transfer to a storage jar until ready to use.

Body oils
Body oil can smooth, moisturise, and nourish the skin. It is a versatile gift because many people will enjoy the beneficial aromatherapy oil which they can apply to their skin. Body oils can also be used as a massage oil, bath oil or just a good aromatherapy session. They make perfect gifts because they are ready to use. Here is a soothing and nourishing blend.
4 drops orange
12 drops cypress
4 drops frankincense
2oz of grapeseed oil
Add ingredients in the glass bottle with a funnel, shake to blend. Apply anytime skin feels dry and needs some extra moisturising, 2% dilution.
The Egyptians were particularly fond of frankincense because the oils can penetrate through the skin, into the blood stream and can effect change from within. Always dry brush before you do an oil massage to increase circulation and exfoliate skin. Warm the oil under the hot tap or in hot water and follow with a full body oil massage to remove toxins before you shower. By leaving the oil on the skin for 20 minutes, the oil penetrates all 7 layers of tissues helping to remove toxins that are held deep in our system. This practise is recommended for each season. You don’t need to use soap so you can leave this sheen of oil on your skin to protect from environmental toxins. We do so much scrubbing on the skin that it removes a lot of our natural oils, so we have to apply moisturiser to replenish the skin. If we let the body do its thing it will function better.

Essential Oils
Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils and is healing and balancing to both the body and mind. When used on the skin or by inhaling, essential oil infuses the body with tiny molecules that can enter the bloodstream to nourish and heal, calming the nervous system and thereby stimulating the body’s natural defences and inner pharmacy.
